| Toshiba to Ship Its First HD DVD Player for Europe in November Fresh news about HD DVD format players has come. Next-gen HD DVD players will be available to European consumers at the beginning of November 2006, the HD DVD Promotion Group says. Customers will be able to get their hands on Toshiba's first player in a few weeks and it will set them back ?599, while the next offering, released in December, will be more expensive - ?899. Toshiba released news of its two new HD DVD players on Friday and the announcement has, almost inevitably, reinvigorated the competition between HD DVD and Blu-ray formats. Both new formats - HD DVD and Blu-ray, - designed to maximise the potential of high-definition images, are set to revolutionise the world of home cinema, following a worrying period of falling DVD sales. HD DVD's battle with Blu-ray has been the industry's chief talking point in recent months, although a number of reports have suggested that the ultimate outcome will simply be widespread compatibility. The first HD DVD player was actually released in March 2006 and related technologies are already on offer in the North American and Japanese markets. write your comments about the article :: © 2006 Computing News :: home page |
