Siemens Home Entertainment Solution Wins iF Design Award

The Surpass Home Entertainment solution from Siemens Communications has won the 'Oscar' for industrial design. Industrie Forum Design in Hanover chose the user interface as winner of its 2006 iF Design Award in the category Digital Media Interface.

The award-winning Home Entertainment system from Siemens enables users to choose from a broad range of different applications such as television and radio channels, an electronic program guide, stored programs, video on demand and recording options. The designers' task was to present the array of options with a clear layout and good visibility on the TV screen.

This was achieved using a special grid system to arrange the elements. Fonts and colors were optimized for the TV screen. Varying sounds and contrasts indicate active elements to distinguish them from other information. As a result, consumers can control the device intuitively by remote control despite the broad range of available services. The design of the TV user interface is a perfect example of customer-centric, sophisticated high tech application.

The iF Design Award has been an enduring and prestigious hallmark of outstanding design ever since its initial appearance in 1953. It is viewed all over the globe as the 'Oscar' in the field of industrial design, and is conferred annually by Industrie Forum Design in Hanover, one of Europe's oldest design centers.
