Xerox Introduces Color Printer, Software for Graphic Designers

Xerox Corporation expands its color printing and software offerings for the graphic arts market with two new products that give design professionals even more digital color printing power.

The products, designed to further bolster Xerox's color portfolio, were two of several offerings unveiled at AIIM/On Demand, a major conference and exhibition for the document imaging industry.

The Xerox Phaser 7760 tabloid color laser printer and the Electronics for Imaging (EFI) Splash RPX-i, a Mac-based workflow software option for the award-winning Xerox DocuColor 240/250 color laser multifunction system, provide design professionals with new color management tools, improved performance and enhanced image quality, enabling them to create vibrant, full-color documents such as newsletters, brochures, pre-press proofs and comps.

The Phaser 7760 color laser printer includes PhaserMatch 4.0, which is advanced color matching and calibration software. PhaserMatch enables graphic designers to create color proofs on the Phaser 7760 that will accurately match the color output produced on an offset printing press or other commercial printing system. PhaserCal, a component of PhaserMatch, measures color output with advanced tools to achieve color quality and consistency print after print. The Phaser 7760 offers three print-quality modes, including a true 1200 dpi enhanced mode and a high-quality photo mode, for press matching and printing on-demand.

The Phaser 7760 prints up to 35 color pages per minute and an industry-leading 45 ppm in black-and-white, and it features a color first-page-out time as fast as 9 seconds. It is the industry's first tabloid color printer to come standard with automatic two-sided printing, a 40 GB hard drive and 1 GB Ethernet to efficiently process complex files.

The Phaser 7760 can print on a wide range of paper sizes and media weights up to 255 gsm. In addition, the Phaser 7760 features improved print quality on glossy paper stock, giving final documents such as promotional fliers and signage a professional look. Two advanced finishing options are available: an advanced finisher for stacking, stapling and hole-punching, and a professional finisher that can make booklets.

The EFI Splash RPX-i workflow software can be added to the EFI-driven controller on the Xerox DocuColor 240/250. The software increases color control and improves workflow efficiency to help graphic arts and print professionals produce professional color documents for advertising agencies, design firms, marketing departments and creative services companies.

Also new with the DocuColor 240/250 is an optional high-capacity paper feeder. The 2, 000-sheet feeder expands the multifunction system's maximum paper input capacity to 5, 260 sheets, meaning short-run print jobs aren't interrupted for paper reloading. Supporting media up to 13"x19", the feeder offers features such as center-registered feeding, which ensures the paper remains straight throughout the paper path, and an air-assisted feeding system that helps accurately feed special paper stocks.
