Taking Open Standards Desktops for a Spin

Experience the future of standards-based desktop computing at Open Standards Desktop Live, a tradeshow feature at LinuxWorld and NetworkWorld Conference & Expo (LWNW 2006), April 24 - 26, 2006 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre. Sponsored by Xandros, Intel and MCR Computer Rentals, this demonstration area will be open to all attendees.

Open standards go beyond mere specification. They allow governments, businesses, and individuals to enjoy an unprecedented freedom of choice in computing, as they are available for all to read and implement. Because they tend to encourage interoperability and fair competition, open standards offer emancipation from proprietary vendors who aim to have their standards dominate the market.

Open Standards Desktop Live will feature standards-certified desktop operation systems from Xandros, the leading developer of alternative operating environments, running on Intel-based machines. Exhibit Hall visitors will have the opportunity to test drive the best-of-breed open source applications on user-friendly desktops: office suites, web browsers, personal information managers, image editors, media players, games, and more.
