| eMagin Releases New OLED-XL Displays eMagin Corporation has announced the first four product offerings of its OLED-XL microdisplay portfolio. eMagin's proprietary OLED-XL displays provide a new level of high performance imaging, with up to 410.000 hours luminance life, the widest temperature range, and the lowest power requirement of any commercially available SVGA resolution microdisplay system. Combined with magnifying optics, OLED-XL displays create large, high resolution virtual images that are extremely compact and portable for use in personal display systems for applications ranging from PC gaming, portable media players such as iPods, and wireless Internet appliances to thermal imaging, situational awareness, and training and simulation, as well as other emerging consumer, industrial, and military near-eye display applications. OLED-XL displays are built on eMagin's original active matrix SVGA-3D and SVGA+ integrated circuits, using the same electronic interfaces to facilitate drop-in capability for OEMs. Incorporation of a unique merger of advanced OLED materials with eMagin's new top-emitting stacked device structures, built using proprietary processes, yield significant improvements in lifetime and luminance for the new class of displays. The new OLED-XL devices typically have 6-10 times longer luminance half life and exhibit 3-5 times the efficiency, depending on the specific OLED-XL product and operating parameters. This large efficiency increase permits OLED-XL displays to be capable of much higher luminance without any added power consumption. Typical power consumption of a full color SVGA+ or SVGA 3D OLED-XL display running 60 Hz movie-like video at 60 cd/m2 is less than 300 mW. No heaters or special modes are required to achieve high quality, instant-on video performance at temperatures between -67 degrees F (-55 degrees C) and +185 degrees F (+85 degrees C). SVGA+ OLED-XL displays (852x3x600 pixels) are available in full color, white monochrome, and green monochrome. SVGA-3D OLED-XL displays (800x3x600 pixels) are available in full-color. eMagin's original OLED displays remain available in the same array of colors. OLED displays are already the core imager for many military, industrial, commercial, and consumer imaging systems. write your comments about the article :: © 2006 Computing News :: home page |
