The Path to Profitability for the 21st Century Network

At the 21st Century Communications World Forum 2006 in London, UK, Siemens Communications will report on strategies which ensure that operators increase their sales and reduce costs, thereby resulting in higher profitability.

Today, the commercial success of carriers is determined by how quickly and readily new services can be implemented or modified, because ultimately services mean sales. At the same time, the infrastructure must ensure that the services can be offered in a cost-efficient manner. Only an optimum combination of increased sales and cost-effectiveness will enable carriers to operate profitably.

Scalability and simplicity of handling are the two most important preconditions that new services must fulfill. However, the onus does not rest solely on the carriers. Everyone involved in shaping the markets – whether they are infrastructure suppliers, terminal equipment manufacturers or standardization bodies – must work together towards this goal. Only then will it be possible to offer the levels of reach and accessibility that today's users expect, and which they are willing to pay for. The watchword is "any time from any device".

Nevertheless, services should not be seen in isolation. By bundling different services, new offerings can be put together in line with the user's personal requirements. A further "plus" is that users can manage their own services, shaping them individually, at the same time as actuating functions. This in turn significantly cuts administration costs – for zero touch admin.

The presentation will be held on March 28 at 2.00pm. (Islington Design Center).
