| GE Energy Announces Its D400 Substation Data Manager GE Energy has announced the availability of its D400 substation data manager. Key applications for the D400 include IED integration, non-operational data management, network security and SCADA system interfaces. The D400 was developed to meet industry requirements for a secure, substation-grade, data-processing platform with easy to use configuration tools and a built-in human machine interface (HMI). This is not being accomplished today by most single-box solutions. Among the product's strengths is its ability to integrate data from a wide range of intelligent electronic devices (IEDs). GE's D400 has a powerful processor with large memory capability in a fan-less design with a wide operating temperature range. It offers network security that complies with the North American Electric Reliability Council's requirements, including user authentication, data encryption, a secure terminal server and a secure sockets layer/virtual private network. Other key features include automated fault record management, integrated HMI functionality (replaces the PC in the substation), IEC 61131 control sequence programming, browser-based local and remote display and configuration support and IEC 61850 substation local area network support. In addition, the D400 is CE-marked for substation operation. The new D400 improves access to information and non-operational data to ensure better decision making, allows for rapid retrieval of key event/fault data and reduces capital costs by using existing IEDs more effectively. write your comments about the article :: © 2006 Computing News :: home page |
