| SAS RAID Subsystem by Fujitsu and Infotrend Fujitsu Computer Products of America, Inc. and Infortrend has announced that the companies have joined forces to advance Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) storage technology with the EonStor (ES) S12F-R1420 4Gigabit (4Gb) Fibre Channel-to-SAS subsystem. The market's first 4Gb Fibre Channel-to-SAS RAID subsystem provides improved reliability, scalability and availability compared with its Ultra320 SCSI counterparts, making it a natural choice for demanding applications such as medical imaging, multimedia on-demand and video stream editing. The latest SAS hard disk drives enable faster and more reliable product link speeds, greater scalability, and provide a lower cost-per-gigabyte. To achieve this, Fujitsu hard disk drives plug into an Infortrend SAS backplane to convert the data protocol to 4Gb Fibre Channel. Infortrend chose to incorporate Fujitsu state-of-the-art 3.5" SAS hard disk drives into the system to achieve top-notch performance and capacity with outstanding reliability. As the hard disk drive industry's foremost SAS proponent with a long history of aggressive research and development, Fujitsu SAS hard disk drives were first to market and offer industry-leading performance. The S12F-R1420 achieves system throughput up to 780MB per second (MBps) with dual-redundant RAID controllers for the highest levels of redundancy and performance. The subsystem is equipped with two battery backup units (BBUs) that supply power to cache memory in the event of power loss. The S12F-R1420 further ensures data safety by supporting the installation of an uninterruptible power supply (UPS), which can extend the operating time for the entire subsystem if a power shortage ever happens. Other product highlights include: -- Dual controller, 4Gb Fibre Channel-to-SAS subsystem; -- System throughput up to 780MBps Sequential Reads and 521MBps Sequential Writes; -- Twelve dedicated point-to-point drive channels for high performance and reliability; -- Ease of maintenance with hot-swappable redundant FRUs including: o Two power supplies, o Two dual-speed cooling fans, o Optional battery backup unit (BBU); -- Single DDR RAM DIMM module with up to 2GB capacity -- UPS support. write your comments about the article :: © 2006 Computing News :: home page |
