Miró Sobrer - Two of Swords
Best Jazz Instrumental Album

Miró Henry Sobrer is a Catalan-American trombonist and composer based in Chicago, IL. Influenced by his father, a scholar, writer, and translator, and by his mother, an actor and storyteller, Miró's music incorporates dramatic narrative with his own experience to create a unique and personal sound. Also a student of latin-jazz maestro Wayne Wallace, his music professes a devotion to various afro-diasporic rhythms. His debut album as a leader "Two of Swords" (released July 15th, 2022 on Patois Records) showcases these diverse influences while celebrating the life and culture of his late father.

Dee Dee McNeil's Musical Memoirs "Two of Swords" review:

"Miró Henry Sobrer's trombone is smooth as satin … his compositions are well-written and artistic, like the concept of this album."Radio France, Jazz Trotter: "Two of Swords" review:

"Miró Sobrer's debut album showcases an artist with an exceptionally broad vision and a gift for incorporating lyrics into musical context. As a trombonist, he has a huge sound that can charm, sing or cry."

Ink 19 "Two of Swords" review:

"Sobrer's music dances with occult mysteries, ethnic pride, and lovely jazz. The star of the show is Sobrer's magnificent trombone work (…) Two of Swords is entertaining, thought-provoking, and you can dance to it if you want to."

VINYLMINE (Greece) "Two of Swords" review:

"An alien, strange, and finally a delightful album is " Two of Swords ", which is completed by Miró Henry Sobrer and his company, and which is definitely both a surprise and a proposal, within the wider Latin music scene."

JAZZIZ "Two of Swords" review:

"Trombonist/composer Miró Henry Sobrer showcases his compositional prowess and utilizes an expansive palette of African diaspora rhythms to celebrate Catalonia and his late father on his impressive debut album as a leader."

Nettavisen (Norway) "Two of Swords" review:

"gut-wrenching and life-affirming recording. (. . .) The outstanding trombonist, who now lives in Chicago, has created a separate and fierce musical universe to and from. (. . .) Two of Swords has become an enormously groovy and personal musical business card that should open many new doors for Miró Henry Sobrer."

Midwest Record "Two of Swords" review:

"Music of a different flavor in which thoughty Catalonian poetry, tarot readings and Latin jazz come together (. . .) Leading the way with solid trombone chops inspired by his father, Sobrer shows he isn't afraid to chart his own courses."
