Willie Oteri Releasing Series of New Singles

Multi-Instrumentalist Willie Oteri will be releasing a series of new singles throughout the year featuring his Tenor Sax and Flute work. Best described as Free Improvisation these high quality downloads, some new and some older tracks, with several contributing artists including New York/Boston based guitarist Jeff Platz (Daniel Carter), bassist Damon Smith (Cecil Taylor, Henry Kaiser), sound artist Laurie Amat (The Residents) as well as his Dark Matter Horn collaborators and Austin Jazz veterans trumpet man Dave Laczko and drummer Steve Mankenberg.

In the past Oteri has worked with several known artists including the ever versatile bassist Tony Levin, Grammy nominated bassist Chris Maresh, Zappa alumni Mike Keneally and others, always in an improvised environment.

Most of these recordings were made live in studio using 2 to 4 tracks, some on a hand held recorder, with very little separation between instruments. Some track bleed and other audio disturbance can be heard.

Oteri has recently completed 10 years residency at Kenny Dorham's Backyard in Austin Texas hosting a monthly show of experimental jazz called Jazz OUTside. He tours Italy and Germany regularly.

"Initially Oteri offers a more languid approach that creates mood, something rather lacking among this column's CDs, with their in-yer-face anxiety to please." —Stuart Nicholson - JazzTimes
