Don Braden & Joris Teepe's Upcoming Gig at Zinc Bar (07/12)

Zinc Bar, located at 82 W 3rd St, New York, NY is proud to present dynamic duo Don Braden and Joris Teepe on Wednesday July 12th. To celebrate their latest co-led album Conversations (released on May 30th, 2017) Braden & Teepe will be joined on stage by the talented Jeremy Warren on drums for two separate sets (8:00pm & 9:30pm). Ahead of this gig, the long-time co-musicians will speak to Gary Walker at WBGO about both this performance at Zinc Bar, and The Litchfield Jazz Camp and Festival (July 9th-August 6th), at which Braden will appear as Musical Director. This interview and their exclusive performance at WBGO will be aired on July 11th.

Conversations highlights the interactive aspects of how Don and Joris play jazz as a duo. As Braden himself notes:

"Framed by rich and varied tunes, strong and supple grooves, and emotional expression, the improvisations are really a manifestation of exuberant adventure for us. We create, exchange, explore and develop all kinds of ideas – melodically, harmonically, rhythmically, dynamically and more, and we really have fun while doing so."

A follow-up to their previous co-led album Pay As You Earn, Conversations continues the almost quarter-century of collaborations between these two titans of jazz. This new project exhibits creative, grooving performances of jazz classics and originals, which incorporate uniquely interactive improvisation, exquisitely delivered by Braden and Teepe alongside drummers Gene Jackson and Matt Wilson.

Following their initial encounter and subsequent tours across Europe, Braden and Teepe released their first CD as co-leaders in April 1995 on the German label, Mons Records, entitled Pay As You Earn which featured Tom Harrell, Cyrus Chestnut and Carl Allen. Now, after more than two decades of continuous collaborations and projects, which has included CDs, tours, jazz education, and compositions for various ensembles, these two consistent and highly-compatible jazz musicians have joined forces yet again to present their latest co-led album Conversations. Their performance at Zinc Bar will showcase the high-level of musicianship and true affinity that these two individuals have with and for each other, which is evident on Conversations.

Individually, both artists have had the opportunity to add a list of musical success and experience to their respective resumés, as both have toured with and learned from many legendary jazz masters. Don has worked with Betty Carter, Wynton Marsalis, Freddie Hubbard, Tony Williams, Tom Harrell, Roy Haynes and many others. He has produced 19 previous CDs as a leader, and has been very active as a jazz educator all over the world, including a three year stint at Harvard University, his alma mater. Joris spent 9 years in Rashied Ali's group, and also toured and recorded with Billy Hart, Benny Golson, Sonny Fortune and many more. Besides touring, producing and arranging on a regular basis, he is currently the chairman of the Jazz Department at the Prins Claus Conservatoire in Groningen, Holland (where Don also works). He has 14 previous CDs as a leader.
