The Duo to perform jazz, blues classics at Neumann University

The Cultural Arts Forum at Neumann University will presents the jazz and blues pairing of The Duo on Thursday, Sept. 8, at 1:30 p.m.

The Duo features the smooth vocal stylings of singer/actress Demetria Joyce Bailey and guitarist/songwriter Skip Barthold and embraces old school jazz and blues tunes by artists like Billie Holiday, Sarah Vaughn, George Gershwin and Duke Ellington.

Bailey was a vocal performance major at Oklahoma City University and she was a featured vocalist with numerous groups, including Surrey Singers and Black Student Union Ensemble, and performed in numerous theatrical productions. Bailey has also performed throughout the U.S., the Philippines and Japan.

Barthold is a guitarist and songwriter originally from upstate New York. He went to college at Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore where he was a classical guitar student. While in Baltimore, he was a member of the Peabody guitar ensemble and a co-founder of the Slim Pickin's Bluegrass band. In New York, he was a regular participant in Jack Hardy's Monday night songwriters exchange and was featured on five issues of the Fast Folk Musical Magazine, including the premier issue.

This event is presented by the Cultural Arts Forum, which has been sponsoring events to support adult women students at Neumann University through the endowed scholarship named in honor of the founder of the forum, Margaret Mary Kearney. Since its founding in 1970, the forum has presented more than 250 events and seminars.

Event will be held in the Fred P. Meagher Theater in the Thomas A. Bruder, Jr. Life Center on campus.
