Sundae + Mr. Goessl - Makes My Heart Sway

Sundae + Mr. Goessl is a husband/wife duo playing a mix of genres from (mostly) the 1930's. While some call their style "Vintage Jazz" and others deem it "Cowboy Jazz" there's one adjective that everyone can agree on: delightful.

Sundae + Mr. Goessl have been in the business of delighting audiences all across the US for the past 2 years. Recently married, the couple has put out 3 albums and has booked 4 national tours. The couple has successfully drafted an act that encompasses virtuosity, jazz, pop, country, fashion, comedy, vaudeville and even magic! Don't miss this charming duo when they come to visit your town.

Sundae has steeped for over a decade in vocal jazz performance and earned the Seattle Vocal Jazz Princess title in 2014 and 2016. In 2015 she was nominated for Vocalist of the Year in Earshot Magazine. Studying under Greta Matassa, she's had many opportunities to sing all across the US. Sundae often surprises her audiences with a melodica solo and with 10 years as a piano instructor under her belt, it is quite a treat. She appears regularly around Seattle lending her unique sounds to a myriad of styles ranging from indie/pop to Western Swing and has had her hand in some proverbial pies ranging from electro-pop to singer/songwriter to old-time jazz to country. However, she proves most delightful and captivating when she injects her verve into these Golden Age songs with her style described by allaboutjazz.com as "an informed coquettishness that possesses the merest hint of Billie Holiday."

Mr. Goessl was born and raised in a small village in eastern Wisconsin and became an accomplished jazz guitarist by age 17. At age 18 Mr. Goessl started his trek west. His first stop was Eau Claire WI. There he studied music at the University and played in the award winning jazz ensemble with such jazz greats as saxophonist Michel Brecker and guitarist Charlie Byrd. Getting the itch for more inspiration, Goessl moved to Minneapolis where he made a living gigging most nights of the week. With his insatiable desire for creativity and elevation, Mr. Goessl made the trek to Seattle WA. Today, Mr. Goessl makes a living as one of Seattle's top guitarist in most genres. From jazz to country, indie to Brazilian, surf to metal, Goessl is a freelance guitarist that approaches the music with studied curiosity and stamps it with his indelible signature sound.

The duo formed a deep connection with each other through their mutual love of music, quickly and earnestly becoming a couple. Sundae + Mr. Goessl will be making fantastic music together for the rest of their lives.

CD DESCRIPTION

Makes My Heart Sway (2016) is Sundae + Mr. Goessl's newest album. A follow up to their debut Cheek to Cheek (2014), Makes My Heart Sway features a moody and diverse palate. The title track is an original tune written by guitarist Goessl and was meant to capture the essence of the album as a whole, ranging from a tremolo-induced "Nature Boy" to a poppy rendition of "Fascinating Rhythm." The heart breaking lyrics from "After You've Gone" are quickly forgotten when the bonus track of Prom Queen's "Pretty Little Thing" puts you under a spell…The Prom Queen song is not the only tune out of the 1930's context. Sundae's sweet arrangement of Squirrel Nut Zipper's "Low Down Man" is a fresh surprise. The Seattle couple once again puts the genre of Vintage Pop back on the map with their arrangements of these superb songs, but don't let the word "pop" fool you. The musicianship of this duo is outstanding and Sundae's scat solos are just as delightful as Mr. Goessl's continuously mind-blowing jazz chops. Another terrific album from Seattle's Sweethearts, Sundae + Mr. Goessl.
