New Release: Roy Mcgrath Quartet “Martha” (JL Music)

Martha" by the Roy McGrath Quartet is a series of eight compositions that encompass an homage to family, friends, and the human connection. Three arrangements and ve original pieces re ect all ambits of relationships: Healing, love, loss, dishonor, spirituality, gratitude and other aspects are represented. Through these eight compositions Roy attempts to portray in sound the past four years of his life. The album is dedicated to his grandmother, Martha Albelo who was an amazing in uence on his character and person.

Roy McGrath is a tenor saxophonist, composer, bandleader and sideman living in Chicago. He recently earned his Masters Degree at Northwestern University. Born and raised in San Juan, PR, Roy sang in school choirs before picking up the sax at the age of 16. Joa- quin Garcia also recently received a Masters at Northewestern. He is a masterclass lecturer, recording artist, instructor, music director, and professional pianist, with a debut jazz album to be released in Spring 2015.

Kitt Lyles is an upright and electric bassist from Greenville, SC, currently residing in Evanson, IL. Kit studied at Northwestern, and plays at many venues in the Chicago area. In addition to performing, Kitt teaches piano with Judy Lei Strings, the Wheeling Park District Music program.

Gustavo Cortinas is a drummer, composer and educator from New Orleans. He was raised in Mexico City. Cortinas graduated from Northwestern with a Masters, and released his debut album "Shapshot" in 2013. He performs regularly in Chicago.
