The Artists' Quarter Moves New Year's Eve Party To Hell's Kitchen

The Artists' Quarter jazz club is having a reunion New Year's Eve celebration with Carole Martin, Dean Magraw and friends on December 31st, 2015 from 9:00 P.M. until 1:00 A.M at Hell's Kitchen in Minneapolis.

On December 31st, 2013, the Artists' Quarter had its final New Year's Eve celebration in Saint Paul, after 19 years of ringing in the new with Carole Martin and friends. Those who miss the famous club's most popular annual tradition can now experience it again, and those who never had the chance can find out what they were missing.

Kenny Horst, the owner/manager of the former Artists' Quarter, has reassembled the all-star jazz lineup that performed on the AQ's final night. In addition to vocalist Carole Martin and guitarist Dean Magraw, Emmy-winning composer and pianist Phil Aaron and bassist Chris Bates will join Horst himself on drums. Davis Wilson, who manned the door at the AQ and handled stage introductions, will be on hand to greet guests and introduce the performers with his Lord Buckley-esque wit and charm.

Hell's Kitchen was selected as a location because the basement bar (formerly Rossi's Blue Star Room) has a warm, music-friendly vibe that AQ fans will find familiar and a four-star kitchen that will prepare stunning hors d'oeuvres, included with admission. A midnight champagne toast will also be provided. Tickets are available at artistsquarter.com for $65 per person. A limited number of VIP tickets are available. They include preferred seating, plus autographed Carole Martin CDs and rare vintage vinyl LPs. VIP tickets are $100 per person.

Carole Martin's 2004 release "Pieces of Dreams" was described as "the finest jazz-vocal CD from the Twin Cities in many a moon" in the Minneapolis Star Tribune. Buoyed by the warm reception of that release, including packed houses and standing ovations from the visibly moved crowds at her "comeback" shows, Carole moved ever deeper into the American songbook — and her craft. Carole is an elegant stage pro and a gripping torch singer, imbued with savvy, entirely without affectation.

Dean Magraw is a consummate guitarist, playing with wit and soulful abandon. A performer like no other, he is part-comedian, part-philosopher and all-around musical genius. Transcending genre, he has performed with a cornucopia of collaborators from jazz organist Jack McDuff to folk icon Greg Brown to National Public Radio's A Prairie Home Companion.
