Gordon Goodwin’s Big Phat Band And Take 6: Helping Kids With Cancer

Grammy award winning 'Gordon Goodwin's Big Phat Band', and multi Grammy award winning a cappella group, 'Take 6', will join together for a special performance on Sunday, August 23rd, at the Center for the Art of Performance at UCLA, Royce Hall, to benefit the children's charity Discovery Arts. Proceeds from the evening will help fund Discovery Arts' mission of providing the healing power of the arts to children who are in the hospital undergoing treatment for cancer or other life-threatening illnesses.

"Each year, over 15, 000 parents will hear that their child has been diagnosed with cancer. Our mission is to help these children step outside the confines of their illness and into a world of creativity and imagination. We have found that these very sick children all share one wish, 'to be normal.' Anything we can do to make their journey a little easier or a little brighter is our greatest wish.", stated Marilyn Clements, Executive Director of Discovery Arts.

The Benefit Concert for Discovery Arts, will be hosted by radio personality Doug McIntyre, of the syndicated radio show "McIntyre in the Morning", along with special guest appearances by Monica Mancini and Gregg Field. The event will also include a silent auction featuring celebrity and sports memorabilia, vacation getaway's to the Montage Beverly Hills, Maui and Big Bear, as well as, dining specials, Hot Air Balloon rides, and many more surprises. The evening will wrap with a special after event performance by songstress Joanna Pearl.

All of the programs at Discovery Arts are offered free of charge to the hospital's, patients and their families. Discovery Arts works diligently throughout the year to secure the funding necessary to sustain and grow their programs. Support is drawn from a strong volunteer network, individual contributors, monthly partners, corporations, private and family Foundations and fundraising projects to enable them to provide their 'Arts Adventures' to very sick, and often times, forgotten children.
