Antique Phonograph Show And Banquet Returns To Buena Park

Did you ever wonder about the origins of recorded sound, the music that comes out of a CD? Or what a Grammy Award is modeled after? The answer is the phonograph, also known as the gramophone – - the great-grandfather to all sound reproducing inventions. From its invention in 1877 through the 1970's, the phonograph was the preeminent means by which people heard recorded music and speech. The Grammy Award is modeled after a phonograph / gramophone.

The Antique Phonograph Society is hosting its annual show and banquet August 8 and 9 in Buena Park. All types of antique phonographs, gramophones, 78 rpm and cylinder shaped records, plus antique music boxes, radios and microphones will be offered at 70+ vendor tables. Collectors will be traveling from all over the US to attend the event. The Saturday evening banquet will featureColin Hancock, an 18 year old Jazz and Blues recording artist, and vocalist Janet Klein, who will perform a program of popular 1920's music and make live recordings on cylinder records.
