An Eclectic Mix Of Musicians Take Home Coveted ZMR Awards

The vibrant city of New Orleans set an exciting backdrop for the 11th Annual Zone Music Awards (ZMR) Show and Concert on Saturday May 9th, 2015 at the Joy Theater. New Orleans-based ZMR owners Daryl Portier and Ben Dugas welcomed an eclectic array of musicians and fans traveled from as far as Norway, South Africa and India to attend the weekend-long events surrounding the awards show and live concert, which are chosen by the broadcasters who report to the ZMR Music Airplay Chart.

Over 100 artists took up residency in the Intercontinental Hotel to celebrate, network and plan future collaborations. The ZMR charts report airplay for myriad musical styles including World, Ambient, Acoustic, Chill, Electronic, New Age, Solo Piano, Celtic and more. Both terrestrial and internet broadcasters from across the globe report their airplay to the monthly chart. The ZMR website provides services of hosting the chart, sharing music reviews and providing access to promotional resources for artists.

A highlight of the awards ceremony was the tribute reel and Lifetime Achievement Award presented to multi-instrumentalist Peter Kater, who has won multiple ZMR Awards and received 10 GRAMMY nominations. Kater was in attendance to accept the award and perform for his fans and fellow musicians. Kater also won the category of Best Contemporary Instrumental Album for Ritual, a collaboration with R. Carlos Nakai.

The concert (with a low $40 ticket price) lasted over three hours, with 15 minute sets performanced by Perpetual Motion, David Nevue, Matteo Palmer, Tina Malia, Ricky Kej and Wouter Kellerman (with Fiona Joy, Ciro Hurtado, Vito Gregoli, Kristin Amarie), Peter Kater, Tigerforest and Amethyste, Jeff Pearce and Paul Speer.
