Drummers Curtis Nowosad and Mareike Wiening have both recently released CDs and are doing a joint concert at ShapeShifter Lab on May 13th to celebrate!

Canadian-born Curtis Nowosad's sophomore album "Dialectics" (Cellar Live) features Jimmy Greene on tenor saxophone, Derrick Gardner on trumpet, Steve Kirby on bass, and Will Bonness on piano, and recently received 4 1/2 stars in DownBeat Magazine, who called him "fiery and scalding one moment, breezy and swinging the next, and perpetually inventive throughout."

German-born Mareike Wiening has just released her critically-acclaimed debut album "Crosswalk" which features Rich Perry on tenor saxophone, Alex Goodman on guitar, Patricia Franceschy on vibes, Angelo Di Loreto on piano, and Marty Kenney on bass.

This is a very special show as Curtis will be joined by very special Canadian-based guests Steve Kirby (Elvin Jones, Cyrus Chestnut, Abbey Lincoln, Wynton Marsalis) and Will Bonness (Avishai Cohen, Regina Carter, Maynard Ferguson), internationally-acclaimed alto saxophonist Jon Gordon, and Jon Challoner, one of the top trumpet players of his generation.
