Zarm Ensnare World Musics For Their Current Recording Project

Based in Perth in Western Australia, Zarm infuses a variety of world cultures' music in one catchy, uplifting sound. The core of the group is a trio, including Luke Hutcheson on lead vocals, guitar and bass, Joelle Barbй on drums, keys and backing vocals and Flex on lead vocals, MC, melodica and percussion, and they often perform with a few session musicians live, which usually brings the full band member count to six. The trio are currently in the studio working on their upcoming album, and their track "Corby" is slated to be featured on WiFi PR Group's compilation, Indie Anthems Vol. 5.

Zarm's alluring sound comes from culturally diverse influences, such as from Jamaica, Seychelles, England and Australia. Their musical influences are just as varied and include Bob Marley, Eric Donaldson, Michael Jackson, Scream, Spearhead and Neil Young, while their lyrics are influenced by Gregory Isaaks, Tim Winton and John Steinbeck. Though their sound is unique, it is most often compared to The Black Seeds, Gentleman and UB40.

Their music is built around being inspired by fairness and equality, and, for them, the right to enjoy a free lifestyle for all cultures is at the core of their music and lyrics. They are also inspired by topics like dealing with the struggles of relationships and healing, a common theme in their lyrical songwriting.

In early 2013, Zarm recorded their self-published debut EP, Elephone, and released it in April of that year. The album earned them many fans and accolades, and its songs were even nominated for the Australian Independent Music Awards (AIMA). Their track "Can't Get Enough" ranked No. 6 in its category.

As for upcoming releases, this month, Zarm are in the studio recording new material, and they will be releasing it later this year, planned for October. They've been working on it for the last four months, and it will include brand new Zarm originals that they are excited to put out there. In support of this album, they'll also be planning their first Australian East Coast tour to start in late October, with specific dates to be announced.

One year after the release of their debut EP, Zarm will have their track "Corby" featured on WiFi PR Group's compilation, Indie Anthems Vol. 5, a collection of international independent talent who WiFi PR hopes to put on the radar of music lovers and industry movers and shakers the world over. Being released at Coachella this weekend, the digital mixtape will be handed out on 3, 500 download cards to festival attendees, and 1, 500 more download copies will be made available on the Indie Anthems Bandcamp website.
