The Art Of Cool Festival Welcomes Legendary Hubert Laws To The Line-up

The Art of Cool Festival announces a stellar addition to an already impressive line-up, the award winning, internationally renown, jazz flutist Hubert Laws. Legendary musician, Hubert Laws, a National Endowment for the Arts Jazz Master, will take the stage at PSI Theater in Durham on April 25th at 6:15 pm in partnership with North Carolina Central University's 24th Annual Jazz Festival. Laws is an accomplished musician across the genres of jazz, classical, pop and rhythm and blues. With over 40 years experience, three Grammy nominations, 20 albums and sold out performances to his credit Laws will add a depth of perspective and experience to the Art of Cool Festival. A jazz great in his own right, Laws has played among many of jazz's biggest talents including Ella Fitzgerald, Chick Corea, Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock, Sarah Vaughan and Freddie Hubbard. Laws has done session work for Aretha Franklin, Lena Horn, Paul Simon, Paul McCartney, George Benson and Quincy Jones.

"Hubert Laws has a long history of being an extraordinary musician, " says festival co- founder Albert Strong. "His distinct sound and approach earned him recognition as NEA Jazz Master, and actually the only one on this year's AOC Fest lineup!"

Festival highlights include a 2 night headliner series featuring legendary jazz icon Maceo Parker, the Miguel Atwood-Ferguson Ensemble, and a Carolina Soul Tribute with Miguel Atwood-Ferguson Ensemble accompanied by an all-star line-up, panel discussions and master classes, and a viewing of the Jazz Loft Project.

The Art of Cool Festival is a two-day music festival with 2 outdoor stages, 6 indoor venues and over 20 world-class performances presented by the Art of Cool Project. The title sponsor of the Art of Cool Festival is the American Tobacco Campus.
