Paul de Barros Reads From His Book About Marian McPartland

Distinguished jazz writer Paul de Barros reads from his highly-praised biography of jazz pianist and radio host Marian McPartland, Shall We Play That One Together? The Life and Art of Jazz Piano Legend Marian McPartland (St. Martin's Press) at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 15 at the Cinema Arts Centre, in Huntington, Long Island, 423 Park Avenue, Huntington

The reading takes place as part of a musical and cinematic afternoon that includes a screening of the documentary film about McPartland, In Good Time and a performance of some of McPartland's compositions on solo piano by Marian McPartland protégé Roberta Piket. In a rare public appearance, McPartland, longtime host of National Public Radio's Peabody Award-winning program "Marian McPartland's Piano Jazz, " will appear for a Q & A and book- and DVD-signing after the screening, along with de Barros and filmmaker "Huey."

Paul de Barros has been writing for Down Beat magazine since 1982 and is the jazz critic and popular music editor for The Seattle Times. Shall We Play That One Together? is a 2013 nominee for the Jazz Journalists Association's "Jazz Book of the Year."
