Louisiana Music Factory to receive Cutting Edge Lifetime Achievement Award

On Thursday, September 27, 2012 at 7:00 pm during the Cutting Edge music business conference which is being held at Gallier Hall, the Music Business Institute will present Louisiana Music Factory with the "Cutting Edge Lifetime Achievement Award." This annual award is given to individuals or entities who have demonstrated a dedication to educating, promoting, and/or providing business opportunities to musicians and music professionals.

"For 20 years Louisiana Music Factory has been the one stop site for all of your New Orleans music and Louisiana music needs. From Cajun music to blues, Zydeco music to R&B, traditional New Orleans jazz to modern jazz, and more. The Louisiana Music Factory, located in the New Orleans French Quarter, carries the widest selection of Louisiana and New Orleans Music on compact disc and vinyl records in the world.

Opened in February 1992 by two founders Jerry Brock; co-founder of radio station WWOZ and producer of the first Rebirth Brass Band record; and Barry Smith on Peters Street in the French Quarter, The Louisiana Music Factory's weekly in-store performances has provided countless number of musicians with the opportunity to expose their music to music lovers.

In 1996, the store moved to its current location on Decatur Street within the French Quarter. The new store is two-storied devoting the second floor to vintage vinyl. In 2001, Brock left the store to pursue other opportunities, and Smith became the sole owner."

Past recipients of this award have included the legendary "Deacon" John Moore and the late Wardell Quezerque. The award presentation is open to the public.
The full conference runs from September 26 – 30 at Gallier Hall, 545 St. Charles Avenue and includes the NOLA DOWNTOWN Music & Arts Festival and Cruisin' New Orleans Car Show which takes place in Lafayette Square on Friday and Saturday, September 28 -29, 2012.

Started in 1993 as a conference dedicated to educating musicians and music professionals about the latest trends in the music industry, it has evolved into entertainment workshops covering Cutting Edge Business Sessions, Cutting Edge Entertainment Law Seminar, and Cutting Edge Film Workshop. The seminar topics include new trends and hot topics in music, film and interactive contracts including; Publishing, Copyrights and Trademark Update and other visual medias (TV, Video games, Internet, Advertising, etc.).
