Fred Hersch Returns To Maverick Concerts

Maverick Concerts, the oldest continuous summer chamber music festival in America, announces a return engagement by the acclaimed jazz pianist and composer Fred Hersch, part of its "Jazz at the Maverick" Saturday evening series of contemporary jazz concerts during its 97th season of Music in the Woods. The concert is on Saturday, Sept. 8, at 6:30 pm. Described by Vanity Fair magazine "the most arrestingly innovative pianist in jazz over the last decade, " Fred Hersch balances his internationally recognized instrumental skills with significant achievements as a composer, bandleader, and vocalist.

An artist of unbounded imagination and skill, Mr. Hersch is, as Downbeat magazine declared, "one of the small handful of brilliant musicians of his generation." He was the first artist in the 75-year history of New York's legendary Village Vanguard to play week-long engagements. Mr. Hersch was nominated for two 2012 Grammy Awards and has won theCoup de Coeur of the Charles Cros Academy in France. More than 70 of his compositions have been recorded, and Mr. Hersch has been awarded a Rockefeller Fellowship, grants from Chamber Music America, The National Endowment for the Arts, and Meet the Composer. He has held seven composition residencies at The MacDowell Colony, in addition to a wide variety of National Public Radio programs and CBS Sunday Morning with Dr. Billy Taylor.

Maverick Concerts is the oldest continuous summer chamber music festival in America and a winner of the Chamber Music America/ASCAP Award for Adventurous Programming. Built by Maverick Art Colony founder Hervey White, Maverick Concert Hall first opened its doors to music lovers in 1916. The rustic hall is located at 120 Maverick Road, Woodstock, N.Y. 12498. With acoustics ideally suited to the intimacy of live chamber music performance, it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
