"The Empress of Jazz" Sarah McLawler set 'The Bar', raised 'The Bar'...Owns 'The Bar'! You know the music is serious when one of our all-time great jazz innovators, performers brings it on home to you" -Ginger Broderick Host/Executive Producer GingerNewYork-TV

"The Empress of Jazz" Sarah McLawler, in her wide-ranging career, has worked with Dinah Washington, George Benson, Pearl Bailey, Max Roach, Nat King Cole, Art Tatum, Dionne Warwick, Gloria Lynn, Milt Jackson, Errol Garner, Abbey Lincoln, her late husband violinist Richard Otto, EDDIE DURHAM, Wynton Marsalis - and mentored Quincy Jones! Born in Louisville, Kentucky and raised in Chicago, she studied organ at an Indiana Conservatory and attended Fisk University. Influenced heavily by the music of the big bands, McLawler used to sneak into clubs in Indianapolis to hear Lucky Millinder. She went on the road with the bandleader, but later formed her own all girl band.

Based in Harlem, she occasionally performs in Atlantic City, NJ, but on most, Saturday's Sarah 'brings it on home to you' at the elegant, legendary French Restaurant CHEZ JOSEPHINE, run by the son of Josephine Baker... where the likes of Wynton Marsalis and James Carter come by and sit in.
