Dynamic Band Brings the Blues to Oro Valley

Transporting audiences to a legendary era of music, the Railbirdz turn the blues into a great time at each of their concerts and will bring their high-energy rhythm to Oro Valley on Thursday, April 19 at 6 p.m.

The free show, part of the Oro Valley Concert Series, will take place at Oro Valley Marketplace's Century Theatres Courtyard, southwest corner of Oracle Road and Tangerine Road.

With great talent from all members, the Railbirdz carry an unforgettable sound and stage presence. The Railbirdz are a tight, funky, four-piece band playing foot-stomping, "get up and dance" music.

The band – playing blues, R & B, funk and soul – has a diverse repertoire with a consistent "make it good and make it groove" theme. The Railbirdz cover well-known artists like Average White Band, Aretha Franklin, Tommy Castro, Delbert McClinton and War, as well as Maceo Parker, The Cate Brothers, Robert Cray and Wolfman Washington.

Four experienced and proficient musicians make up the band, including Mike Troupe on drums and vocals, Marty Perry on guitar, Dave Martin on bass and vocals, and Frank Arciuolo on sax, keys and vocals.

Oro Valley Concert Series

A unique partnership between the Town of Oro Valley and the Southern Arizona Arts and Cultural Alliance (SAACA) has created this evening concert series to bring the community an enriching experience each month.

The free series celebrates multiple musical styles, and the collaboration between the town and SAACA has also supported a children's music program.

"We value the role that arts and culture play in our community, " said Oro Valley Mayor Satish Hiremath.

"Our residents have expressed tremendous interest in additional programs and events. Through our partnership with SAACA and other supporters, the Town of Oro Valley is now able to provide concerts and children's programs free to the public."

The performances began in February and continue the third Thursday of each month at Oro Valley Marketplace. Concerts will feature swing jazz, blues, funk, Americana and more in the upcoming months.

About the Southern Arizona Arts and Cultural Alliance

The Southern Arizona Arts and Cultural Alliance (SAACA) is a not-for-profit organization that exists to ensure that, through engagement in arts and culture, our communities produce strong, inspired citizens. SAACA enlists artists, businesses, governments, and individuals to expand artistic and cultural opportunities in their respective communities. To enhance access to the arts and to promote cultural awareness in the communities it serves, SAACA presents large-scale festivals, events and other programs. The Alliance also promotes educational opportunities in the arts and culture for both the young and the old.

Organization History

The Southern Arizona Arts and Cultural Alliance (SAACA) grew out of the Greater Oro Valley Arts Council (GOVAC), an organization established in 1997 to provide artistic and cultural opportunities for residents of northwest Tucson. GOVAC eventually became one of the largest arts organizations in the region. In 2009, owing to its success, the group expanded its mission to include creation of partnerships with business, governments, and communities throughout Southern Arizona that would encourage innovative, creative cultural expression in the arts for years to come.
