Guitar Ensemble Seminar Now Forming

Noted Encinitas guitar performer and teacher Peter Pupping is inviting guitarists of all levels to participate in a summer guitar ensemble seminar. The purpose of the seminar is to deepen a guitar student's knowledge of guitar techniques, while playing music in a group setting.

The ensemble, composed of between 8 and 12 amateur guitarists, will learn and work on improving sight reading, tone, fingering, understanding chords and strumming, music theory, and overcoming performance anxiety.

The summer ensemble's theme will be surf and reggae music. The ensemble will meet for eight consecutive Mondays from 7 – 9 p.m. at Ranch View Baptist Church, 415 Rancho Santa Fe Rd., in Encinitas. The session begins Monday, June 20. There will be a concert during the final session, Aug. 15. Participating in the ensemble costs $200.

"People appreciate playing in an ensemble for different reasons – some want to play in a group setting, some want to learn new things, while others want to learn to perform, " Pupping said. "Ensemble students can get all of that and more."

Pupping has been teaching and performing in Southern California for more than 30 years. He earned bachelor's and master's degrees in music from San Diego State University. Pupping has studied with internationally known classical and jazz guitarists. He organizes and directs the Encinitas Guitar Orchestra twice each year.
