Gina Roché Romps onto the Vespers Stage

Gina Roché, internationally acclaimed jazz vocalist, will perform this Sunday, September 19th at the First Presbyterian Church of Cape May (corner of Decatur and Hughes streets in downtown Cape May). The show will begin at 8 p.m.

Ms. Roché has performed in this jazz series regularly over the past several years, thrilling audiences with her wonderful talent as a vocalist and entertainer. She is really remarkable for her ability to sing beautifully and passionately in a wide range of musical styles. Some of her fans come to hear Gina tear into up-tempo Brazilian tunes that make it hard to remain seated. Others come to hear her latest originals, which passionately reflect the ups and downs of her recent life experiences.

Gina has sung and played her music throughout the U.S. and other countries as well. She has spent a great deal of time in South America and Carribean soaking up the music, the culture, and probably a libation or two. She has focused on music of several Brazilian masters, and enjoys developing her own takes on their classic tunes.

Over the past year, aside from performing in venues all over the region, Gina has been writing songs for a new CD. "It's been a challenging year in a lot of ways, "she says. "But thank God I have music. Writing helps sort through all this." A number of important family issues occurred this year and at least one dear friend passed away. Several such events made their way into Gina's songs this year. It is likely several of these will be included in the Vespers show song list.

For the Vespers concert, Gina will be joined by a group of excellent sidemen. Keith Hollis will be on drums, Tim Lekan on Bass, and a special musical guest will appear on keyboards. Gina will provide the vocals and play guitar as well. The group will likely be playing a mix of Brazilian tunes, modern classics, and Roche' originals.

Don't miss this great show by one of South Jersey's most talented vocalists and entertainers. Her wonderful voice and extraordinary stage presence means this will be a terrific show. The concert begins at 8 p.m. No reservations are required but Vespers concerts are frequently SRO, so coming a little early is suggested. Doors open at 7:15. Limited free parking is available. A $5.00 minimum donation is suggested. Wheelchair accessible.
