Montreal Under the Charm of Burlesque

The prestigious Montreal International Burlesque Festival will enchant the Club Soda for a second year, on September 23rd, 24th and 25th 2010. In the spirit of the cabarets of the 30's, 40's and 50's, artists from here and there will charm and amuse the public, with the greatness of burlesque in Montreal.

A press conference will be held on Thursday September 23rd at 2pm at l'hotel Hotel Montreal (262, St-Jacques West, Old-Montreal) - Presentation of the festival and artists

Three exceptional evenings will put height in sight! On Thursday, September 23rd, the Festival will open with a fashion show of vintage clothes and sexy pinup-up with the Lise Charmel Parisian collection, then will move on with the show Oh Canada! in which Canadian artists will charm the public. The next day, on Friday, September 24th, the International evening will welcome artists of four corners of the world, among which of Japan and Australia, to dazzle Montreal. Finally, on Saturday, September 25th, the Gala evening will star burlesque legends as much as the newcomers, who will offer magnificent performances! Among the honorable artists, Scarlett James, the producer and the organizer of the festival, Satan's Angel (who will perform on stage on Saturday with her fantastic 66 years of age and her 40 years of experience) and April March, both real legends of burlesque, as well as Julie Atlas Muz, Michelle L' Amour, Roxi Dlite and several others. And for the first time in Montreal, the Boylesque number!

European author-composer-interpreter Dimie Cat is added to these artists, and will present pieces of pop / nude-jazz of her album Pin Me Up, produced by talented and eclectic Franck Rougier. Her music is a blink of the swing of the 40's and 50's, passing from French to English and curiosity. Fresh and glamorous, Dimie Cat's music allies the Anglo-Saxon culture, the swing and the sounds electro hip-hop. Dimie Cat will perform on stage on Friday September 24th.

Besides these three memorable evenings, workshops are offered to the public at Cat's Corner dancing school (3451, St-Laurent blvd, Montreal): vintage make-up classes with the make-up artist Christelle Souverbie, stretching classes with the contortionist Andréane "Pussy" Leclerc, dancing lessons in high heels with Julie Atlas Muz, creation of characters with Gentry De Paris, art of the cabaret and burlesque dance with Jacqueline Hyde, and the last one and not the slightest, workshop entitled Le Bon, Le Mauvais et Le Méchant du Burlesque with burlesque legend Satan's Angel!

The Montreal International Burlesque Festival is produced by Countess Scarlett James. This famous Quebec burlesque artist offers representations through North America since 2008. Specialized in high-end performances with fabulous costumes, Scarlett seduces with her charm and elegance. Besides the Festival, Scarlett is the producer of the Grand Burlesque show, which will be presented in spring, 2011. A glamorous show of variety and sophistication allowing burlesque to be reborn in Montreal through a new light.

Faithful to its past and tradition, burlesque puts on the art of effeuillage. A purely delightful seduction which mixes elements of modern dance, theater and humor with an inspiration of the 40's and 50's. Being a great hit in America for 150 years, burlesque has evolved until today, and knows a real revival.
