| Jason Hartman to perform at Durban Botanic Gardens Durban's opportunity to support SA Idol 2009 winner - Jason Hartman, will be the highlight of the Old Mutual Music at the Lake picnic concert, scheduled to take place on Sunday, 8 August at the Durban Botanic Gardens Currently enjoying great success with his début album, released in October last year, Jason Hartman was invited to open for US Idol - Kelly Clarkson, when she toured through the country earlier this year. Not only a singer and guitarist, Jason has turned his hand to writing and the album which is comprised mainly of his own songs has seen two of the tracks 'Break The Silence' and 'On The Run', as No 1 hits. He is joined, on the album, by his brother Scott (drums, percussion and vocals), his father Sam (rhythm guitar) and Donovan Thatcher (bass and vocals). Jason's musical career began in 1996 with Triad - a three-piece rock band. The "Samson Show Band" followed with his Scott on drums and Sam on rhythm guitar and vocals. The group performed extensively throughout South Africa, Botswana and Zimbabwe. Scott, who started his music career alongside Jason, has played professionally over the past 10 years throughout Southern Africa and abroad. He has a unique ability to hold any audience captive with his thunderous rhythm. His time management skill, unique sound and style make him the engine and driving force behind the band. However, Scott's talent does not only lie in his ability as a drummer/percussionist but his versatility. His diverse gift as a musician sees him effortlessly play from rock to jazz, Latino to African fusion as well as country to acoustic folk. Father –Sam, is also an accomplished musician and is the "rock" behind the sound of Jason's band. Just like Jason's brother Scott, Sam has played music with his son for the past 10 years. His rhythm guitar work is strong yet subtle. He uniquely crafts harmonies that fill the melodies with a quality that is invaluable to the band – making him an extremely accomplished singer and harmonist. Donovan Thatcher has played bass guitar professionally for over 15 years. His versatility is unsurpassed as he naturally plays all genres of music. In the early nineties Donovan toured with the well-known rock band, Highway Jam, which performed at numerous festivals around South Africa. In early 2005 Donovan joined the Barnyard Theatre circuit touring South Africa and captivating audiences with his rolling bass runs and incredible stage performances. Opening act Red Light Stereo will open the concert at 2:30pm. This band brings a funky and addictive sound of rock. With catchy lyrics and harmonies, supplemented by the infusion of some funky African bass lines and solid beats, they appeal to all listeners young and old. The make up of the band is simple - with Dylan Rhodes (rhythm guitar and vocals), Gareth "G" Purchase (lead guitar and vocals), Lliam "Lucky" Scholtz (bass), and Don Blom (drums). Bring the whole family out to enjoy the Hartman group as they perform a wide repertoire of songs at this concert. There will be a Kids Zone where children are entertained from 1:30pm until 4:30pm giving parents a chance to relax and enjoy the music.
