JJ Grey & Mofro Welcome Toots Hibbert

Toots Hibbert (of Toots and The Maytals) is JJ Grey's greatest living influence. Grey says, "Well, him and Otis Redding. And his songwriting! Nobody ever talks about that. He is my favorite songwriter." So, when Hibbert agreed to sing on Grey's new album 'Georgia Warhorse, ' it was one of the greatest moments of Grey's career. And his career has included opening slots for Jeff Beck, Booker T, and Lenny Kravitz, among many other highlights.

Grey had written the sweet Stax-style soul tune "The Sweetest Thing" around an infectious horn riff. The two duet with the grit and chemistry of Sam & Dave. The song is a triumph, sticky with humidity and reverb, with the horns and later the vocals punching through.
