Baltimore Honors Legendary Singer Phyllis Hyman

During the week of her birth, Baltimoreans will honor the late R&B/jazz singer Phyllis Hyman in a tribute concert. The concert will highlight vocalist Shang along with several musicians who performed with Hyman during her career. Among the performers is Vince Evans, Hyman's musical director for numerous years, and saxophonist Eric Marner. WEAA radio host and Hyman's former music associate Gene McBride is the event host.

According to a press release, "SHANG possess a uniquely similar tonal quality with Phyllis Hyman…. In the Hyman repertoire of Living All Alone, Somewhere in My Lifetime, Meet Me on the Moon and more, SHANG captures not only her sound but the angst of her unrequited loves that fueled the passion in much of Hyman's music."

The Phyllis Hyman tribute concert takes place Best Western Ballroom, 1800 Belmont Avenue, Friday, July 9, 7:30 p.m. "Forever Phyllis" is a production of Charm City Jazz and Eagle Arts & Entertainment Services.
