Jazz At Lincoln Center Announces The Naming Gift

Jazz at Lincoln Center has named its education, recording and rehearsal studio, located at Frederick P. Rose Hall, the Agnes Varis and Karl Leichtman Studio and Broadcast Suite.

The space is named by Jazz at Lincoln Center board member, Agnes Varis, who donated a $3 million naming gift to the organization. Dr. Varis has enjoyed a longtime association with Jazz at Lincoln Center, most recently serving on the organization's board since 2007. She previously named FPRH's Rose Theater stage and infrared system and has been a major supporter both personally and through her company Agvar Chemicals, Inc.

As one of the largest recording studios in New York City, the Agnes Varis and Karl Leichtman Studio and Broadcast Suite features a sprung wooden dance floor, an intimate observation balcony, and enough capacity for an entire symphony orchestra.

The Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis and other guest artists regularly rehearse in the space. Designed as an integrated component of the Frederick P. Rose Hall facility, the recording studio is wired to all of the performance spaces in order to facilitate ease of professional recording.

The recording studio is a state-of-the-art 96-track digital recording and post-production facility operated by SIRIUS XM Productions/Effanel Music. Housed within the Irene Diamond Education Center, the Agnes Varis and Karl Leichtman Studio and Broadcast Suite is a strategic and unprecedented pooling of educational, rehearsal and recording resources.
