Gary Lucas And Dean Bowman Reimagine Spiritual Roots Music On New Album

'Chase The Devil' - Gary Lucas' new album with the internationally renowned, New York-based jazz/blues singer Dean Bowman - is out this week on Knitting Factory Records.

Recorded by Steve Addabo at Shelter Island Sound, 'Chase The Devil'‚ features original spirituals by Lucas and Bowman that draw inspiration from William Blake, Blind Willie Johnson, Nusrat Fatah Ali Khan, and Shlomo Carlebach. The duo also reimagine songs, such as Rev. Gary Davis' "Twelve Gates To The City" and Joseph Spence's "Out On The Rolling Sea, " and even put a psychedelic, blues-drone twist on the Jewish hymn "Hinay Ma T'ov."

Here's what the press is saying about 'Chase The Devil':

"A stirring, well-played and well-sung collection" - Yahoo! Music

"Barbed guitar, earnest vocals and a wide-ranging trip through musical traditions... Lucas delivers" - Jambands.com

"An enthralling musical experience." - Wildy's World
