Battle of the Bands: School Edition-Orpheum Theatre Foxboro

The Orpheum Theatre Foxboro is hosting its first ever Battle of the Bands: School Edition Friday, March 19th at 8:00pm featuring Red Fox Motel of Walpole High School, Cynicism of Mansfield High School, and Compliments to the Victim of Sharon Middle School.

Red Fox Motel is a Walpole-based band featuring the talents of Pat Maloney, 16 on drums and vocals, CJ Romeo, 15 on guitar and Casey McGuill, 15 on bass. The band identifies as a Rock-Blues blended trio and was formed 2 years ago by Romeo and McGuill. Maloney originally auditioned to fill the band out as a melody guitarist but was chosen instead for his talents on the drums. RFM recently put their single " Manitoba" on sale through iTunes. The song is a tribute to Dick "Handsome" Manitoba, the lead singer of The Dictators. The band hopes to put out a 5 track CD by the end of the year.

Cynicism is Mansfield High School students Brett Fortin, 16, on lead vocals, Tommy Joncas, 16 on lead guitar, Matt DiCarlo, 15 on bass/vocals, Aidan Carter, 15 on drums, and Jeff Smith, 16 on rhythm guitar. Their main focus of genre is rock but their influenced by new and old bands such as State Radio, The Beatles, and Rage Against the Machine. Fortin and DiCarlo primarily write the lyrics while the rest of the band contributes to the musical compositions. Cynicism started nearly two years ago when Joncas, DiCarlo, and Carter who had previously been in a band together, joined with vocalist Fortin. Just recently, Smith joined the band to add to the rhythm section. Their unique sound stems from all five band member's different musical influences.

Compliments to the Victim was formed in the winter of 2007, when all of the members were in 6th grade, out of a mutual appreciation of rock greats such as Red Hot Chili Peppers, Metallica, Led Zeppelin, and Pink Floyd, as well as an underlying urge to express their individual musical talents in the form of a rock band. The band features Adam Selsman, 14 on guitar, Sam Pinkowitz, 14 on drums, Ben Peltz, 13 on bass, and Alex Peltz, 13 on vocals. Since 2007, they have practiced on a regular basis in order to hone their unique blend of alternative rock, hard rock, and metal, as well as a smattering of progressive, funk, and punk rock. They regularly play school shows and continue looking for gigs. Band influences include Living Syndication, Metallica, Pink Floyd, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Tool.
