Government of Canada Invests in the Saskatoon Blues Society

On behalf of the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State (Western Economic Diversification) and Member of Parliament (Blackstrap), today announced funding for the Saskatoon Blues Society for its annual festival. The Saskatoon Blues Festival showcases the talents of local blues artists, musicians, and performers and allows residents of Saskatoon to experience and appreciate this style of music. The 8th annual Festival is scheduled to take place from February 25 to 28, 2010.

"The Saskatoon Blues Society provides the residents of Saskatoon with great music and memorable experiences every year, " said Minister Moore. "Our Government is proud to support this festival, which makes a wonderful contribution to the community's cultural vitality."

"I am pleased that our Government is investing in a festival that presents an array of talented local musicians and individuals, " said Minister of State Yelich. "I would like to congratulate the Society and the many volunteers involved with the festival for making this event such a success."

"The Saskatoon Blues Society gratefully acknowledges the assistance provided by the Government of Canada, " said Gord MacAulay, Chair, 2010 Saskatoon Blues Festival. "The funding allows us to present programming options that would otherwise not exist and makes the festival more accessible to all."

The Saskatoon Blues Society promotes, fosters, supports and celebrates blues music in Saskatoon. Their annual festival presents regional, national, and international artists and includes shows and activities that encourage participation by audiences of all ages.

The Government of Canada has provided funding of $10, 000 through the Building Communities Through Arts and Heritage program of the Department of Canadian Heritage. This program provides Canadians with more opportunities to take part in activities that present local arts and culture and celebrate local history and heritage.
