Aaron Copland on Getting To Know You

Susan McCray, host of Getting To Know You on KSAV.org internet radio, invites you to listen to some of the most electrifying music by one of the finest American composers, Aaron Copland. Two of the compositions featured are very well known and popular ballets; Agnes DeMille's Rodeo and Martha Graham's Appalacian Spring, for which he won the Pulitzer Prize. You will also hear a piece that had its roots in Mexican folk music "El Salón México" and a movement from the most stirring composition entitled; "Fanfare for the Common Man."

Aaron Copland was one of the most respected American Classical composers of the twentieth century. By incorporating jazz and folk into his compositions, he created both exceptional and innovative pieces. Today, almost twenty years after his death, Copland's life and work continue to inspire musicians worldwide.

Susan McCray has hosted "Getting To Know You" for over four years on KSAV.org. Getting To Know You is an internet radio show with celebrity guests as well as successful people from all walks of life. The show also features music specials about artists, composers and their music. Susan McCray's great love and knowledge of music started when she was introduced to great composers and their music at an early age by her father, Academy Award winning composer Harry Sukman.

Susan McCray is a successful casting director, Producer and Author. Her list of credits and accomplishments reads like a scrapbook of your favorite memories. She learned the craft of television casting while working on classic television shows Bonanza. The High Chaparral, Happy Days, Laverne and Shirley, Mannix, The Odd Couple, Hawaii 5-0, and many others. As VP of talent for Michael Landon, Susan cast Little House on the Prairie, Highway to Heaven, and Father Murphy and numerous Movies for Television. With her husband, producer Kent McCray, she produced the acclaimed television movie tribute to their dear friend Michael Landon, Memories with Laughter and Love.

KSAV is radio the way it used to be. With music from the 40's, 50's and 60's, celebrity interviews and guests, it's your childhood memories relived today, and Susan has the best of it all on her show. Featured episodes include; Patti Page, Shirley Jones, Brenda Lee, Buddy Greco, Merlin Olsen, Gogi Grant, Wink Martindale, Jayne Meadows Allen, Susan Anton, Shecky Greene Ernest Borgnine, Melissa Gilbert. Susan has hosted special tribute shows to Guy Lombardo, Boots Randolph, The Music of Gershwin, Henry Mancini, Julie London, Page Cavanaugh, Spike Jones, and more.

Susan's recent project includes a CD she produced of her father's compositions entitled: "Warm Heart ... Cool Hands", with arrangements in the easy listening jazz genre by former Frank Sinatra musical director/pianist Vincent Falcone. The selections are performed by the Vincent Falcone Trio.
