| Workshop for Jazz Enthusiasts With Violinist Regina Carter The Cultural Events Series at Frostburg State University will present an educational workshop for jazz enthusiasts with Grammy-nominated jazz violinist Regina Carter on Thursday, Oct. 1, from 4:30 to 5:15 p.m. in the Alice R. Manicur Assembly Hall at the Lane University Center. Carter and her supporting musicians will discuss jazz and their experiences working as professional musicians. The workshop is designed for jazz musicians and jazz fans aged teen to adult. This is an extraordinary opportunity for musicians to interact with an artist at this level. Samples of Carter's music can be forwarded by request. Carter will also perform with her quintet at 7:30 p.m. in Lane Manicur Hall as part of her "Reverse Thread" tour. A native of Detroit, Carter's early musical influences were from Motown. Those soulful R&B rhythms have been paired with her classical training to give a fresh approach to playing the violin. Carter has brought her talent to recordings for such artists as Faith Evans, Elliot Sharp and Mary J. Blige. She also lent her musical expertise to the score of the Ken Burns documentary "The Civil War." This tour engagement of Regina Carter is funded through Mid-Atlantic Arts Foundation's Mid-Atlantic Tours program in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts Regional Touring Program and the Maryland State Arts Council's American Masterpieces Program. This project is sponsored in part by the Allegany Arts Council with funds from the Maryland State Arts Council. The Cultural Events Series is supported by a grant from the Maryland State Arts Council, an agency dedicated to cultivating a vibrant cultural community where the arts thrive. An agency of the Department of Business & Economic Development, the MSAC provides financial support and technical assistance to non-profit organizations, units of government, colleges and universities for arts activities.
