The 5th annual "Songs in the Key of Hope" jazz benefit concert

The 5th annual "Songs in the Key of Hope" jazz benefit concert will be Saturday, September 26 at 6 p.m. at the Botanic Gardens Lecture Hall. The concert will feature performances by the area's finest talents, including host Rachella Parks-Washington, Drea Randle, Quamon Fowler, Bernard Wright and special guest, actress Irma P. Hall. The fundraiser will be preceded by a citywide motorcycle ride in support of the fundraiser.

Tickets are $20 and proceeds will be given to the Sarcoidosis Foundation of Texas, a non-profit organization supporting survivors of the mysterious disease. More information is available online at www.sfotexas.org.

Sarcoidosis ("SAR-Coy-DOH-Sis"), is a destructive disorder of the immune system, causing cells to cluster and damage body organs. With limited research being done, little is known about the disorder in the medical community or general public. Sarcoidosis disproportionately targets African-Americans, especially females and there is no cure. Comedian Bernie Mac and football player Reggie White both suffered with the disease before their deaths.

"This year we hope to raise $15, 000. These funds go directly towards informing the public of the disease, supporting patients and conducting vital research, " said Rachella Parks-Washington. Washington isn't just a renowned saxophonist performing at the event, she has suffered with the crippling disease since 2001.

"Someday, we pray this event will be a celebration concert because we've found a cure, " said Parks.

Texas' finest music artists will be on one stage to show support for the Sarcoidosis Foundation of Texas. Come join them and learn more about the disease. Visit www.sfotexas.org for details. Take a sneak peek at a previous "Songs in the Key of Hope" event: 4click to view
