Josh Groban Hits Miles Davis/Gil Evans

Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Josh Groban hit the Hollywood Bowl
to check out the Miles Davis/Gil Evans: Still Ahead performance, which featured Miles Evans (son of Gil Evans) as both Musical Director and soloist, along with jazz heavy weights Terence Blanchard (trumpet), Nicholas Payton (trumpet), Jimmy Cobb (soloist), Christian McBride (soloist), Peter Erskine (soloist), Vince Mendoza (conductor) and Howard Johnson (soloist).

The successful Gil Evans/Miles Davis collaboration resulted in Miles Ahead (1957), Sketches of Spain (1958), Porgy & Bess (1960) and Quiet Nights (1962), along with Evans' behind the scenes contribution to Davis's classic quintet albums of the 60's. Porgy & Bess, Sketches of Spain, and Miles Ahead forever changed the sound of jazz.

Vince Wilburn Jr., nephew of Miles Davis, representing Miles Davis Properties, LLC also attended with Erin Davis (son of Miles Davis) and Cheryl Davis (daughter of Miles Davis).
