August 6 — Emily Elbert (singer/songwriter). 20-year old Emily Elbert first picked up the guitar at 15. Self-taught, her talents grew to include singing and songwriting, and soon led to the creation of her debut CD of original material, Bright Side, in 2006. Elbert performed in the Gibson/Baldwin Grammy Jazz Ensemble in 2007 and won the Grand Prize in the 2007 Texas Music Project Texas 10 Under 20 contest before attending Berklee. In 2008, she toured with G Love & Special Sauce and Kaki King, and has played over 200 gigs nationwide. Elbert is currently recording her next album, with an expected fall 2009 release.
