Ayelet Rose, Anat Fort and Michael Winograd in Philadelphia

Ayelet Rose, Anat Fort and Michael Winograd - this trio will perform in Philadelphia original music that combines a jazz sensibility with middle-eastern rhythms, klezmer sounds and free improvisations. Ayelet Rose Gottlieb's (Composer, Arranger, Vocalist) sound draws on a wide range of musical approaches.

In her music you will find a unique improvisational approach infused with elaborate composition, spiced up with Middle Eastern scales and adventurous texts. She currently resides in New York City and was born in 1979 in Jerusalem, Israel. Her mother's family traces Sephardic roots in Jerusalem to 1492, while her father emigrated from Switzerland in 1976. In her youth, she was surrounded by countless vinyl records and a myriad of musical styles. Gottlieb quickly absorbed the sounds of artists such as Charles Mingus, Laurie Anderson, J.S. Bach, Bob Dylan, Edith Piaff and Egyptian chanteuse Oum Koultum. During her childhood and youth, Ayelet played classical flute and studied music at arts high school in Jerusalem. She continued her musical education at Rimon School of Jazz, where she won first prize for an arrangement she wrote. While in Israel, she performed frequently with saxophone legend, Arnie Lawrence, until his death in '05. Ayelet moved to Boston in 2000 to complete her BM at New England Conservatory. While there, she studied with notable jazz artists Dominique Eade, Ran Blake and George Russell and was chosen to become a member of the conservatory's Honors Improvisation Ensemble for 2000-2001. Shortly after graduating in 2002, Ayelet recorded her Debut album Internal-External with her jazz sextet. The CD was chosen by All About Jazz-NY as "Best Debut of 2004". The Sextet continues to perform ever since, and recently recorded a new CD, to be released in '08. Her anticipated second CD Mayim Rabim was released in 2006 for John Zorn's Tzadik Records. Gottlieb collaborates with director Franny Silverman and video artist Renate Aller to transform Mayim Rabim/ Great Waters into a multi-media performance piece. Their collaboration received a BRIC grant and residency and was performed as part of the 2007 BRIClab season. Ayelet has collaborated, performed and / or recorded with artists such as Joe Lovano, John Abercrombie, John Zorn, Ed Schuller, Yitzhak Yedid, Arnie Lawrence, Anat Fort, Paquito De'Rivera, Alon Yavnai, the Israel Contemporary String Quartet, Rufus Cappadocia, Judi Silvano, Avishai Cohen, Loren Stillman, Frank London, Perry Robinson, and Sir George Martin. She performed in concert halls including the Israeli Opera House (TLV), Alice Tully Hall (NY), Jordan Hall (Boston), Safra Hall (NY), and in festivals and conventions including Sephardic Music Festival (NY), and Israel Festival (Jerusalem, TLV).

Anat Fort (Piano) studied classical piano as a child and began improvising from an early age, open to all the musical sounds of her environment. In the mid-1990's she came to the United States to study jazz. Since then, she has received commissions for chamber ensemble, chorus and orchestra, self-produced her debut album, Peel, and was the recipient of two Artist-in-Residency grants from the Jerome Foundation and the Creative Connections Award from Meet the Composer. She tours regularly with her trio which includes bassist Gary Wang and drummer Roland Schneider. Anat recently released A Long Story, an ECM Records debut with Perry Robinson, Ed Schuller and Paul Motian.

Michael Winograd's music has been described as “touched by God," “vastly inspirational," and “purely sex driven," by a number of ignominious celebrities, critics, mentors and friends. And at only twenty-four years of age, this 'boy/man of the reed,' has made a name for himself, along with the one that was given to him in November of 1982.... Garf Pinsky (that's the name.) Garf has had the honor of performing (music,) with such personalities as Joe Morris, Frank London and his Klezmer Brass All-stars, Kenny Wollesen, DJ SoCalled, Ayelet Gottleib, and Michael Alpert. Mr. Pinsky has also played with the Klezmatics, the Klezmer Conservatory Band, the Beat Circus, the Himalayas, Mikveh, Daniel Kahn and the Painted Bird, Shtreiml, and Lesser Panda... just to name a few. Along with the many ensembles Pinsky performs with, he currently lead's his own projects under his pen name (real name), Michael Winograd. These include Infection (who performs the assumed music of John Phillip Soussa's human morphed clown wedding band,) The Foreingers (who do for Balkan music what Richard Simmons did for chocolate cake,) and Khevre, an ensemble, who for the past four years, has been exploring the possibilities of Yiddish song in contemporary settings. But wait.... there's more....G. Pinksy, in the fall of 2006, along with his contemporaries, founded the first regular Yiddish Tanzhoyz (dance house,) in New York City, where traditional European Jewish dance is taught and explored by some of the finest musicians and dancers in the field. And let's not forget, that for the past three years, the Pinskanator has been musical director of “Kids and Yiddish" at the Folksbeine Yiddish theater in New York City.
