Alhambra at Trinity- Amor And Weddings

by Evan

Alhambra (Isabelle Ganz, director, mezzo-soprano, shawm, flute; Daniel Pincus, tenor; Haig Manoukian, oud; Michael Hess, kanan, nay; Joseph Deminzon, violin, electric violin; Peter Basil Bogdanos, dumbek, bendir, riq) will perform on Thursday, April 26, 2007 at Trinity Church (Broadway at Wall Street). Alhambra is an ensemble that performs Judeo-Spanish (Sephardic) and Arabic vocal and instrumental music, using exotic instruments such as the oud, nay, kanun, shawm, dumbek and bendir.

Improvisations in Middle-Eastern style (taksims) are a major element of the group's performances. For their performance at Trinity, the group will be playing music for "Amor and Weddings" in the Judeo-Spanish world. This theme is especially appropriate within the walls of the Church.
