Litchfield Jazz Camp

Litchfield Performing Arts looks forward to another fantastic summer of Jazz with The Litchfield Jazz Festival celebrating its 12th anniversary this August 3-5, and the Litchfield Jazz Camp (featured in the Jazz Times Education Guide, TIME Magazine and on CNN) celebrating it's 11th summer (July 8-Aug 3).

Registration is now open! Need-based scholarships are available to qualifying Connecticut middle and high school students. Litchfield Jazz Camp has truly become the apprenticeship experience of days gone by. Our entire faculty is top-notch, our non-competitive approach allows for growth at an individual's level, we're open to students 13 to adult and place them in skill appropriate combos so everyone is challenged but not overwhelmed. All the students play on a dedicated second stage at the critically acclaimed Litchfield Jazz Festival.

2007 Highlights: • Back by popular demand, and extended for two weeks, is our composition intensive in sessions 1 & 2 with award-winning composer, Mario Pavone. • Stellar guest artists include Dave Liebman, Dave Samuels and Bill Henderson. • New teaching artists to join stellar camp faculty. Jeremy Pelt – trumpet, Mark Whitfield – guitar Dave Santoro – bass, Lauren Sevian -- baritone saxophone and Rachel Z – piano. Mark Whitfield and Dave Santoro have taught at the Litchfield Jazz Camp in years past but we are pleased to announce their return.

• Litchfield Jazz Camp announces a new course -- The Art & Science of Recording. This is a two week course (Sessions 1 &2) in which students will learn: Basics of recording to computer hard disk, Production concepts, The Recording process, Mixing and editing, Basic mastering, Post Production and basic marketing and promotion, Microphone placement (sponsored by Sure microphones)

Please note: This is a full time course, not an elective. Students who wish to also study as music students should consider registering for weeks three and/or four.
