New Years Evening In A Dub Style

Amazing New Years Evening will take place Sunday, December 31 at Elbo Room, SF. A Bay Area Exclusive! Featuring Dr. Israel in a live dub set backed by Edub (Resident Anti-Hero) plus DJ Sep and Vinnie Esperanza.

Dr. Israel has been central in creating a new dub ascetic. Collaborating with legends such as Bill Laswell and Mad Professor, his boundary-crossing works cry out like a call to revolution, embracing styles from dub reggae and dancehall to drum'n'bass and hard-core. Doc's politically charged lyrics and diverse musical foundations deliver a refreshing blast of thought-provoking tracks that will make music fans from all walks stop and tune in. His ability to represent and reprocess his influences (Black Uhuru, Black Sabbath, Bad Brains, Run DMC, Roni Size) into compelling new forms is astounding. What ties these styles of music together so organically is his understanding and deep love for Big Bass and Big Drums and how to implement that knowledge. This NYE, he will make an exclusive Bay Area appearance, backed by EDub (Etheric Double) from West Coast's Resident Anti-Hero, and joined by Dub Mission's DJ Sep and Vinnie Esperanza.

Doc first came to prominence in the mid '90s in the north industrial region of Brooklyn, constructing his signature sound on the legendary dub label, Wordsound, during the growth of the NYC's "Illbient" scene, and in close proximity to Bill Laswell's Green Point Studio. Taking from roots reggae, dub, jungle, punk, and hardcore, he began fusing musical styles with conscious lyrics, to lay the groundwork for his own blend of revolution. He released his first album, 7 tales of Israel, on Wordsound in 1997. His second solo release, Inna City Pressure (on Mutant in 1999) received great coverage in Rolling Stone, Vibe, LA Times, The Village Voice, and other publications, and sold over 10, 000 copies. Unbeknownst to him however, the label closed its doors for good midway through his next tour, leaving him 3, 000 miles away from his home supporting an album without a label. He then took his music deep underground, where his disgust with the music business fueled his creativity, releasing multiple albums on indie labels and collaborating with different musicians, including Rancid, Sepultura, Bill Laswell, and Skiz Fernando of Wordsound. He also toured throughout Europe, Japan, Mexico, and the U.S. and opened a multi-studio recording complex in Brooklyn, which houses his own studio, Revolutionsound. Doc began his push back into the overground in a partnership with legendary punk/dub indie ROIR. The original home of Bad Brains, ROIR re-released a remixed and re-mastered Inna City Pressure, which was again well received. Dreadtone International (D.I.), Doc's next project, consisted of two female vocalists, the sultry Lady K, and powerhouse Chemda. D.I.'s Patterns of War was released to even more critical acclaim than Inna City. Fitting in two European and four U.S. tours since then, Doc shared the stage with dub legend Mad Professor, and appeared with Heavyweight Dub Champion at last year's "Reggae on the River, " where he rocked the mic in front of 17, 000 reggae-crazed fans. He also took his revolutionary ideals to the screen, beginning a collaboration with Brooklyn director/writer Johnny K, to develop his film concept" Ascend Into Zion, " a futuristic sci-fi post Globalization Rasta fight flick. A short version of the film has been picked up by Palm Pictures/ Comcast, and will be available in over 9.5 million homes in 35 States.

Etheric Double is the experimental project of producer/musician E-Dub (Resident Anti-Hero). With influences ranging from dub, hip hop, and drum'n'bass, to tribal rhythms, soul, and trance, E-Dub focuses his project on the fusion of live instrumentation and loops with electronic beats and effects. E-Dub performs as a 'live PA' act, captivating an audience by mixing live and sampled layers with loop station technology and creating a unique sound, guaranteed to get an audience up and moving.
