Singapore's Pesta Raya 2006

Starting November 17, the Esplanade in Singapore will be filled with lights as a large crowd will gather for a series of performances celebrating Hari Raya. Dubbed Pesta Raya 2006, this ten-day festival celebrates the Malay culture and arts through a string of musical, dance, and theater extravaganza.

As a culturally diverse country with a majority of indigenous Malaysian and Chinese population, Singapore is the perfect place to celebrate the Malaysian culture. Listen to contemporary Malay music through a solo concert by one of Singapore's rising star, Eka Mairina. Watch a compelling drama through a theater production that showcases current Malay social issues.

A fan of Rahimah Rahim? Fall in love with her music again as she melts your hearts with her Malay love ballads this coming November 19. Be touched by the heart-stirring poetry performance of renowned poet Rafaat Hamzah. Delve into a musical fusion of Indonesian traditional music and Norwegian contemporary jazz and electronica through the Gamelan Shokbreker.

Interested in epic tales of love and lost? Watch the musical, The Legend of the Princess of Mount Ledang, happening on November 24 to 26. All these and more when you join the Pesta Raya celebrations at Esplanade.
