JAZZed Magazine Debuts

JAZZed: The Jazz Educator's Magazine debuted with the October/November issue. Developed by the publishers of School Band & Orchestra and Choral Director magazines, JAZZed is the only independent jazz educator's magazine.

Serving 13, 000 high school, college and independent jazz educators across the United States, JAZZed provides practical, hands-on information to help school and independent music educators teach jazz to high school and college students. Each issue will feature an in-depth editorial profile on successful jazz educators and performers to highlight their approach to teaching and playing jazz, including performance methods, improvisation, repertoire, recording techniques, travel and festival opportunities and much more. Whether an educator is focused on small ensembles, big bands, soloists or other groups, they will find a variety of helpful information and ideas in JAZZed.

Edited by Christian Wissmuller, who also serves as editor of School Band & Orchestra and Choral Director, JAZZed will initially be published six times a year. Official industry rollout will be at the 2007 International Association of Jazz Educators convention in January.

According to Rick Kessel, publisher of JAZZed, this magazine fills a unique niche in providing practical, hands-on information on the latest techniques and methods for helping jazz educators teach more effectively. "The initial response to our premier issue has been overwhelmingly positive from both advertisers and readers, " he adds. "So we anticipate this publication to add long-term growth to Symphony Publishing's group of magazines."

Grammy winning vibraphonist and former dean of the Berklee College of Music, Gary Burton, is featured as the cover story subject for the premier issue of JAZZed. Other stories include Nick Phillips, vice president of Jazz and Catalog A&R at Concord Records; author and educator Brian Kane; and guest clinician, Pete McCann.
