Dimitri Shapko at Babylon

Babylon, the award winning restaurant in London, is hosting a unique one-off performance by Dimitri Shapko, the Russian jazz 'super-saxophonist.' On Thursday November 9th, Dimitri is playing alongside Babylon's popular Thursday night Jazz band, 'The Ben Matthew's Duo'. Dimitri has recently dazzled crowds in Monaco at the Formula One VIP party, performed at the Notting Hill Arts Club and played the Edinburgh Jazz Festival to rave reviews.

Dimitri is planning a unique musical set combining cool rare grooves and well-loved jazz standards from the likes of Ella Fitzgerald, Chet Baker and Frank Sinatra. Dimitri, whose childhood was spent behind the iron curtain in Soviet Russia, first discovered jazz by listening to 'illegal' American radio stations. As a teenager he used jazz to liberate his soul from the repression of life under a communist regime. After the fall of the wall he gained a scholarship at the Berkely School of Music in Boston.
