Jazz At Lincoln Center And The Coltrane Festival

Jazz At Lincoln Center Kicks Off 2006-07 Season With The Coltrane Festival, celebrating John Coltrane's 80th Birthday with performance and education events September 14, 15, 16 & 20. Concerts and discussions will explore the legacy of one of the most important and influential jazz musicians and arguably one of the greatest musicians of the 20th century.

The following events are available:Thursday, September 14 - 16, 2006 - Coltrane featuring the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis. The world-renowned big band performs music from Coltrane's masterworks A Love Supreme, My Favorite Things, Africa Brass and other selections (Rose Theater). Coltrane & Hartman featuring Todd Williams, Eric Reed, Reginald Veal, Herlin Riley and vocalist Kevin Mahogany. Guest artists recast the sophisticated balladry of the legendary John Coltrane and Johnny Hartman recording against a backdrop of Coltrane's most beloved instrumental ballads (The Allen Room).

Wednesday, September 20, 2006: Jazz Talk: "Did Coltrane Lose His Way?" Featuring Dr. Lewis Porter (moderator), Rashied Ali, Ravi Coltrane and Jimmy Heath. Dr. Lewis Porter, leading jazz scholar, author and assisting author of the definitive Coltrane discography, will be the moderator for this talk. He and an all-star panel of family and artists who worked closely with the legendary musician will discuss the late years of John Coltrane's career (Irene Diamond Education Center).
