Sligo Jazz Festival and Workshop

Sligo Jazz Project 2006 incorporating Sligo Jazz and World Music will take a place on Festival August 9-13, 2006, Sligo, Ireland. SJP 2006 consists of four days of masterclasses and workshops, five nights of concerts and open-mike jam sessions, with a host of world- class educators, including the great American bassist Rufus Reid, who travels from New Jersey to teach and perform in the beautiful surroundings of Yeats Country in the north west of Ireland. Rufus has managed to fit this, his very first Irish trip, into his hectic summer schedule which includes teaching at the Jamey Aebersold Summer School and performing with Lee Konitz in USA.

Concerts featuring SJP tutors:RUFUS REID QUARTET (USA) - America's double bass legend is featured in concert with Rome-based GREG BURK (USA/Italy) - Piano, MICHAEL BUCKLEY (Ireland) - Saxophone, STEVE DAVIS (N Ireland) - Drums and guests.

SANDRO GIBELLINI - MIKE NIELSEN (Italy) - Twin guitars of contrasting styles featuring the best of Ireland and Italy, with VERONIKA STALDER (Switzerland), Vocal, Rufus Reid (USA), Bass and Steve Davis (NI), Drums.

Additional Concerts by:Toy Vivo Quartet (Israel) - Middle Eastern Improvised Music featuring former members of legendary Middle East crossover group Bustan Abraham

Hot Club of Dublin (Russia/Ireland) - Gypsy Swing featuring Russian virtuoso violinist Oleg Ponomarev

Rhumbatism (Ireland) - Fusing the Latin traditions of Rumba, Samba, Bolero and Bossa Nova, featuring Mike Nielsen, Felip Carbonell, Veronika Stalder.
